Short abstract from the book:Common snipe is a common breeding bird in the Faroes with 1,500-3,000 pairs. The subspecies
G. g. faeroensis is endemic to the Faroes, Iceland, Shetland and St. Kilda. A few common snipes also winter in the Faroes. 199 birds have been ringed, mostly on Mikladalur, Kalsoy (48), Gásadalur, Vágar (45) and Nólsoy (10). Of 193 aged common snipes, 90% were ringed as chicks, 6% were full-grown birds in their 1st calendar year, and 4% were older. Six common snipes ringed in the Faroes have been recovered, all within 1 km of their ringing site, so it is not known where the Faroese population winters. Presumably it winters in the same areas as the Icelandic birds, i.e. Ireland and Britain.
